RICHARD BAUMANN has been a member of the Abingdon Square Painters since 1985. He came to New York in 1979, leaving his position as director of the Fine Arts Program for the New York State Department of Corrections in order to pursue a life long dream of being a professional artist. In September of 1990 Baumann had his first solo show in Soho at the Frank Bernarducci Gallery. The following November his work was featured in U.S. Art magazine. In December of that year his work was shown at the Helander Gallery in Palm Beach, Florida. The June 1991 American Artist Magazine published an article about his work, featuring six of his paintings.
